Environmental policy of OmskVodokanal

To date, the town’s water supply and wastewater disposal system comprises four water-intakes with total capacity of 800 thou. m3/day, two complexes of water purification facilities and two complexes of sewage treatment facilities — in Omsk and in the suburban settlement of Krutaya Gorka.

Every day the water purification station supplies the town with some 600 thou. m3 of drinking water, which is quite adequate for the needs of a town with a population of 1 million 200 thousand. The quality of drinking water in Omsk fully conforms to the standards and is found by the agencies of the State Oversight Committee for Sanitation and Epidemiology to be among the best in Russia.

There has been developed and passed by state expert panel a Programme for the rehabilitation and development of the water supply and wastewater disposal systems in the town of Omsk, with a term of 24 years. The project investment requirement is 18 + billion roubles. As Stage One of its implementation, there has been developed and enacted by the Omsk Municipal Council an Investment Programme for 2007–2010, with funding of over 2.5 billion roubles.

The implementation of the Project will bring a considerable reduction in the environmental and operational risks, which will make it possible to provide the public and businesses of the town with services of water supply and wastewater disposal of much better quality over a long period of time.

In recent years OmskVodokanal has done a lot to put drinking water in Omsk among the best in Russia, to keep Irtysh clean despite higher content of rubbish and pollutants in household and industrial wastewater.
